Volunteer Travel Research

Volunteer tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of travel today. Many Americans, especially Baby Boomers, are interested in vacations that add a volunteer project. They want to make a difference. They believe they can make a difference. They want travel with a purpose.

Give Back Kick Back trips are designed for those socially conscious individualists.

Background Research on Volunteer Tourism

We've added some links below to surveys about the growth in volunteer tourism and demographics for these voluntourists.

  • A U.C. San Diego study shows that 40% of Americans are willing to spend several weeks a year on vacations that include volunteer service.
  • An MSNBC/Conde Nast poll showed that 55% of respondents indicated an interest in taking a volunteer vacation. Also, 95% of those who have already taken a volunteer vacation say they are likely to take another.
  • A poll of Travelanthropist readers indicates that 75% would like volunteering to be a part of their trip – not the entire trip.
  • A Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center article reports that helping others on volunteer vacations has health benefits. Pain, depression and disability decrease while volunteering.
